Grillstock!! (Part 2)

Day 2. We started the day by bumping into Reggae Reggae Sauce inventor, Levi Roots (as you do!) and I managed to grab a photo with him before the crowds descended.

Before, tucking into a "Lemon Sole in a Roll" for lunch from the Bennetts on the Waterfront stall, who were featured on Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's Fish Fight Campaign on Channel Four. Now I'm not just saying this, but this glorified fish butty was the best I've ever had. Soft floury bap, crispy, light batter and luxurious fish with a good dollop of dill mayo - HEAVENLY!

Then the barbecue competition got underway... Andy's team entered a whole salmon into the "Chef's Category" and it was truly a sight to behold!

Another competitor was 2009 MasterChef winner Mat Follas (below, apologies for my eyes being shut!), now head chef at The Wild Garlic. He was really happy to have a chat and photo and even let us in to some of his secrets! He was using Sloe Gin in his rib marinade and it smelt the bomb! What's more once the judges had tasted them, he handed us a rib each to try for ourselves! (I can confirm they were banging)

The sharing out of food was a recurring theme throughout the festival and we managed to get our hand's on slow cooked pigs cheeks from the Ugly Dumb Smokers team.

Finally, we bumped into a newbie onto the BBQ scene, Scott Munro, founder of Red's True Barbecue in Leeds (my hometown!) so I simply had to get a photo with the man who has brought the Donut Burger into the world!

So all in all a great weekend was had. Top food, great atmosphere and an affirmation of my belief that people who are passionate, especially about food, are the best people in the world!

(Couldn't resist showing you these photos of us having fun in the fantastic photo booth at the pop-up Brooklyn Brewery bar!)
