Happy Hour: Gin and Jam Joanne
I have been lucky enough to attend a number of cocktail making masterclasses in my life and whilst I am by no means a pro, I know the basics well enough to do a bit of experimenting...
Essentially, the basis of every cocktail in the world is a combination of a spirit, a sweetner and an acid. With this in mind and with everyone stuck at home at the moment, I went about thinking up a recipe that everyone could do at home with things they probably already had in. And so the 'Gin and Jam Joanne' was born (named after my aunty whose virtual birthday party was the inspiration for this drink!)... use whatever spirit you like, whatever jam (or honey) you like and leave out the egg white if you want (though it does bring a lovely silky texture to the whole affair).
If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use a tupperware container or any empty jar instead!
Happy Hour: Gin and Jam Joanne
Makes 1
Makes 1
50ml gin (or vodka or rum)
25ml lemon juice
1 heaped tsp jam or honey
1 egg white (optional)
lots of ice
dried edible flowers (optional)
Put all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake very hard to create a fluffy, silky texture. You know you're done when the shaker is freezing and too cold to touch.
Strain into a glass of your choice. I went for a coupe martini glass with a sprinkling of edible flowers but a tumbler filled with cubed ice would also work.
