Red Pepper, Walnut & Goat’s Cheese Palmiers

A good canape is the backbone to any great party and, for me, the best canapes when it comes to hosting are those that can be prepared in advance. These little morsels of pleasure can be made well ahead and frozen for up to three months, making them ideal for all your festive entertaining this year...

The combination of sweet roasted red peppers, crunchy, earthy walnut pieces, crisp, buttery puff pastry and soft yet salty goat's cheese is a real flavour and texture sensation. Best eaten warm straight from the oven, these are the ultimate in party finger food.

Red Pepper, Walnut & Goat’s Cheese Palmiers
Makes 20

500g pack puff pastry
100g soft goat's cheese
200g roasted red peppers from a jar, drained
50g walnut pieces

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
Roll out the puff pastry to a large rectangle. Spread the goat’s cheese over the pastry. Roughly chop the peppers and walnut pieces, then sprinkle on top of the cheese.
Roll up one edge of the pastry into the centre, then repeat with the opposite edge to meet in the middle. Cut into 20 slices, place on a baking tray and bake for 10-12 mins until golden.

TIP: To reheat from frozen, preheat the oven to 180C and bake on a lined tray for 10 minutes until just warmed through.
